Herbal Solutions for Maintaining Brain Health

Water is crucial for the Brain.

Your brain is 80% water; therefore it is very important for us to keep our bodies fully hydrated. Dehydration will interfere with your ability to think clearly, among other things. Many people believe that drinking water for brain healthany kind of liquid is the answer to dehydration; on the contrary, drinks containing caffeine tend to dehydrate a person. Drinking ample amounts of water, on the other hand, will help keep you thinking clearly. Drinking at least .5 ounces per pound of body weight per day is the first solution for maintaining brain health.

Omega-3 Fatty Acids

Secondly, the brain is primarily composed of omega-3 fatty acids. Fatty acids can be found in animals which have been grass-fed, and include grass-fed beef, wild game, eggs and meat from pastured chickens and dairy products from grass-fed cows as long as these products aren’t homogenized or ultra-pasteurized.

Deep ocean fish like wild salmon, sardines, etc. also supply omega-3 fatty acids. wild salmon for brain health This type of fish is especially good for the brain because they contain an omega-3 fatty acid called DHA which makes up a large portion of brain tissue.

Flax seeds, avocados and walnuts are also good sources of omega-3 and are good brain foods. If you look at the shape of walnuts, you will see that the nut itself looks like a brain. Could it be that this is God’s way of speaking to us?

The brain also needs protein foods because of the “neurotransmitters” which are made from amino acids. Many people who are low on protein lack mental flexibility and often get very angry and upset when told of this.

Again, grass-fed animals provide the healthiest proteins. It is important that we eat our protein at breakfast time because that is when our “hydrochloric acid” is highest and protein is easiest to digest. It is not good enough just to have coffee and donuts for breakfast — proteins sharpen our brains and we are able to perform better at mental tasks.

Not everyone wants to have animal protein, however, therefore, a good protein shake would be recommended. In terms of supplements, Super Algae is suggested, which contains blue-green algae, spirulina and chlorella. Super Algae for brain health

I would like to end this blog with a quotation from noted Psychiatrist Dr. Daniel Amen. An expert in his field, and author of numerous NY Times best sellers , Dr. Amen says:

To maximize the benefits of BHRT, you need to make the brain-healthy changes in your life. Eating healthier, taking supplements where needed, getting more sleep, and exercising will have a synergistic effect.

  • Hi Judy,
great information. Yes, Brain health is very important and maintaining that health naturally is the key. I love the layout of your web page. I will definitely review the supplements available. I wish you much success in your business endeavors.

    • Thank you for your input about the site and the contents, Mae. If you need any help getting supplements, I would be happy to assist you.

  • Hi Eagleswealth,

Wow, you really hit the nail on the head with this page. Lots of really interesting tips to maximize brain health. I loved your observation about the shape of the walnut – that is indeed in my humble opinion not a coincidence!

I appreciate that you added the list of foods to avoid. I am very concerned by the use of HFCS as a cheap sweetener in so many foodstuffs these days. It is so toxic and detrimental to the body and the brain alike.

I have heard of Dr Amen but must admit I am not familiar with BHRT. Could please give a brief explanation about what this type of treatment is?

Overall I like the way you have covered all the bases in your post. Thanks very much for the info.

    • Nick,

Thanks for stopping by. I am glad you enjoy the information I presented. You asked for a short description of BHRT.

Our bodies are filled with hormones which are essential for the proper functioning of our bodies. Sometimes these hormones become deficient and our bodies develop a hormone imbalance.

Dr. Daniel Amen has developed a therapy which replaces the hormones our bodies are lacking. This therapy is known as Bio-identical Hormone Replacement Therapy; and is meant to be closely identical to the natural hormones our bodies produce.

What’s interesting about Dr. Amen’s therapy is the customized treatment given to an individual. While some therapies are synthetic, Dr. Amen’s bio-identical therapy is natural and his clinics specialize in giving each individual his/her own lab test to determine which method of treatment is necessary, and the amount of dosage that would treat the particular symptom of the individual. Hormone replacement treatment can take the form of creams, pills or natural prescriptions.

      Hope this helps.

  • This post is very helpful. I always heard that eating nuts is very helpful to the body, I didn’t know exactly which nuts until I read your post. Protein for breakfast makes a lot of sense. I usually try to eat a boiled egg to get my energy levels up for the rest of the day. A very good post will be back for more information. Thank you

  • I’m not familiar with Dr. Amen, but I’m always interested in anything to do with natural health solutions. Water is obviously crucial for survival. Protein and fish with Omega 3 fatty acids are extremely healthy. I can’t agree more about foods that are bad for you, especially sugar. It’s just not good for your body. I know because I’m a diabetic and I’m aiming for anything that can keep my brain healthy.

  • Hi Judy,
These are very informative, thank you! I cannot agree more, for us to achieve optimal health we should always choose the right nutritious food, drink lots of water, regular exercise, enough sleep and less stress! 🙂 It may take a lot of will power to resist those tempting sweets but we can always choose the healthy option.
